What to know
Grief and loss can leave you feeling shaken, overwhelmed, or like you’re carrying a weight no one else can see. Trauma from grief and loss might show up as flashbacks, anxiety, or a brain fog with difficulty making decisions—even long after the event has passed.
These experiences can make you feel isolated or "broken". You might even feel like you're "going crazy". It’s important to know that these thoughts and feelings are normal responses to grief and loss—you’re not weak, broken, or crazy. Your life has changed significantly and your brain is trying to adapt to your new reality.
Healing from grief and loss isn’t about forgetting what happened but learning how to live a full life with it—as a part of your experience. Evidence-based therapies like Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) are effective at reducing symptoms and improving overall functioning. Therapy offers a safe, supportive space to process your feelings, rebuild your sense of self, and move forward in your life, one step at a time.
